2019 Greater Memphis Chamber Quality Cup Awards

April 8th, 2019

For the 18th year, MSQPC presented the Greater Memphis Chamber Quality Cup Award to outstanding organizations who have added to our quality of life throughout Memphis and the Mid-South Region. The Quality Cup Award honors projects and organizations that have made significant contributions to their organization’s quality improvement programs and exhibit “best practices”, and is aligned with the former RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology)/USA Today Quality Cup Team Award and the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. This award is the only chamber based award program recognized by the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program in Washington, D.C.

The 2019 Gold Level award winners were:

  • Methodist University Hospital (Methodist University Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy) - received a Gold award Interest Level for converting a paper-based process to a fully electronic workflow to better serve their most vulnerable patients at their 5 adult facilities.
  • Methodist Germantown Hospital (Observation Unit Discharge Process Project) - received a Gold award Challenge Level for the creation of solutions to alleviate many wasteful activities related to the care of patients placed in Observation Status (OBS).
  • Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital (Reducing Use of Broad-Spectrum Antibiotics Through the Antibiotics Stewardship Program) - received a Gold award Summit Level. Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital’s team developed a process that limits the use of broad spectrum antibiotics and encourage more narrow spectrum therapies, effectively standardizing the care and reducing variation.
